For Eon

For Eon is a socially engaged storytelling practice by artist Miriam Julianna in memory of Eon Harris Schroeder- a gender expansive community organizer who was denied medical care because of their gender identity and would go on to pass on the eve of 45’s presidential election.

Through one-on-one interactions, the artist tells the viewer the story of her friendship with Eon while folding an origami crane. Inspired by senzubaru, the artist has transformed her grief over the situation into a wish that all trans and gender expansive members of our communities are seen and loved and held dear. At the end of each telling of for Eon, the viewer is gifted an origami crane folded during their telling.

As a cisgender person, the artist sees the crane as a Trojan Horse to foster empathy. Her most sought after targets are other cisgender people who hold misconceptions or prejudices about the fluid state of gender. She continues this practice with the intention of engaging strangers and seeding solidarity.

Fold-In

A Fold-In is held by inviting the public to join the artist in her social practice.

Participants are asked to wear a monochromatic outfit in any color of the rainbow, and together the participants and the artist create a living breathing rainbow of people folding cranes in memory of activist Eon Harris Schroeder always with the wish that trans folks be loved and accepted by the communities that surround them.

There will be a Fold-In during World Pride 2025 in Washington DC. For notifications about upcoming events join the artist's email list.
